How You Can Write a Perfect Script.

Now that summer is finally upon us all, but me especially because his past year has been absolutely stressful with having to adjust to the new college experience, I began to find new ways to apply myself to being productive while I am in the middle of finding a job.

Thankfully, it wasn’t very hard to find a way, and more importantly a fun way to decide to spend my summer in the long term.

As you are probably aware by now, and if you have read my articles (which if you didn’t, I highly advocate you should) my hobby is to write whichever way I please. Just recently, I had taken a liking to scriptwriting, and right now I am working on a script for a show that has been so much fun to take part in.

While I am still in the beginning stages of the script that I am writing, I am not going to give any subtle hints or details regarding it, for privacy reasons.

But today, I am going to teach you 3 steps of how you or anyone else can write a script.

1. Always have a good story to tell

The first step to scriptwriting actually occurs before you begin writing up the script, and that is to always write down the story you are going to tell.

What I did with my script is I opened up a separate google docs file and wrote down the main characters and what contributions they will have, the episode count and titles, and the overall story of the season but in a condensed 2 paragraph format.

You want to make a condensed version of the story because you want to only list the main, main parts of what will circulate throughout the story, plus you will also have space to come up with new ideas as you type without it getting in the way of what you already thought about.

2. Don’t rush into anything

When I first began my script, I was eager to finish a draft in one day and pitch it to Netflix or HBO Max to have it picked up.

After a day of writing, I had written down a couple of pages so far and realized that it was not any good. I am not saying to write 1 or 2 pages a day, but whatever you know your speed is, try to not accelerate the process only for your desired work to come up not as great as you hoped it would be.

3. Be sure to brainstorm any little idea that pops into your head further

When planning a script, you may not have all the pieces of the puzzle displayed right in front of you.

In fact, you will consistently, and randomly idealize any small idea that comes to you, that will ultimately better the script, even if you are 100% finished with a draft of your script.

While in the process of writing my script, I did not want to think of everything right at that exact moment, because I did not want to have everything completed when I know there are still some ideas out there that will help my show, even if I had not thought about them yet.

So while most of you are going to go on tropical vacations, or some might even relax at home, I guess my plan, for now, is to continuously keep writing my script.

This is a job that never gets old and bland because of the amount of creative control you have for what you write.

This job is basically “Your only limit is your imagination.”
