It can not be debated that we all know what dance is. We have seen performances, and multiple shows, and even danced to the trends ourselves. It is a fun activity and something that energizes the body. It is a way of entertainment that we all love.

Dance is much more than just a form of entertainment. The true meaning of dance lies within the artists that we have today. Just like writing, or speaking, dance is a way of expression. Or should I say the most beautiful form of expression? We can express every emotion with our dance if we have learned it correctly.

Being a Kathak dancer myself, I will be able to describe it better in the aspect of Indian Classical Dance. But trust me, it applies to all the other types of dance. It does not matter which form you admire the most or which dance form you practice yourself. You will be able to express feelings that cannot be put into words.

Kathak Dance form

Initially, this dance form was used to describe stories. The dancer would travel to places and perform the dance to express stories. In fact, the word Kathak is derived from the Hindi word 'Katha' - which means Story. Only later was this dance form recognized and brought to the stage. It was given the amount of respect it deserved, and people from all over would come to watch various shows by the artists. And later, many pioneer Kathak dancers took this art form globally, and now this dance form is recognized by the whole world.

Kathak dance is now known and practiced globally. This form of dance has its own beauty and the fun of learning. Yes, classical dance takes a lot of time to learn and practice because that's its beauty. To understand classical dance, you need the dedication to practice it every day.

And as I mentioned, it is not just Kathak, but every other dance form tells a story in its own way, be it ballet, Contemporary, breakdance, belly dance, and various other dance forms.

International Dance Day

International Dance Day is celebrated all over on 29th April. The ITI Dance Committee initiated this day to honor Jean-Georges Noverre, a pioneer of modern ballet. He was a French dancer and a ballet master.

I would like to ask all of you to dance in your own way and enjoy the current life phase. There are days when we all are at our low points. On such days I use dance to boost my energy and confidence. If you are someone having trouble with self-confidence, try learning this art. It will help you improve your confidence, and you'll also learn a new skill. And don't worry, there is no right age to start learning. You can start when you wish to.

I hope this article helped you understand more about the world of dance.
