Governed by ICC ( International Cricket Council ) Cricket World Cup is a a tournament that was first organized in England in June 1975. ODI World Cup takes place every four years. This event is a one-day international tournament in which 20 teams compete to win the cricket world cup title.
The most successful team in the ODI cricket world cup is Australia with 5 titles. Sachin Tendulkar is the player with the most runs and Glenn McGrath is the player with most wickets up till the last season.

1. West Indies (1975)
Host: England
The first cricket world cup was won by West Indies. West Indies lifted the title by winning the final match against Australia. The championship consisted of 15 matches in total from 7 June to 21 June.
The most runs in this season were made by Glenn Turner and the most wicket taking player was Gary Gilmour.
2. West Indies (1979)
Host: England
West Indies won the ODI cricket world cup for the second consecutive season in 1979. The runners-up team for this season was England. West Indies qualified for finals by defeating New Zealand and England qualified by defeating Pakistan.
The most runs in this season were made by Gordon Greenidge and the most wicket taking player was Mike Hendrick.
3. India (1983)
Host: England
India won their first cricket world cup title in the year 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The runner-up team was West Indies. The movie 83 was also released in 2021 which was based on the Indian cricket team which won the 1983 World Cup.
The most runs in this season were made by David Gower and the most wicket taking the player was Roger Binny.
4. Australia (1987)
Host: India, Pakistan
This season of the cricket world cup was won by Australia under the captaincy of Allan Border. Australia defeated England in the final match to lift the title.
The most runs in this season were made by Graham Gooch and the most wicket taking player was Craig McDermott.
5. Pakistan (1992)
Host: Australia, New Zealand
The 1992 season of the ODI cricket world cup was won by Pakistan. Pakistan won against England in a series of 39 matches. This tournament took place from 22 February to 25 March.
The player of the series was Martin Crowe. He was also the player to make most runs. Wasim Akram of Pakistan was the most wicket-taking player.
6. Sri Lanka (1996)
Host: Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka won the 1996 season of the ODI cricket world cup under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga. Sri Lanka defeated Australia and won their first title.
The player of the series was Sanath Jayasuriya. Most runs were scored by Sachin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble was the most wicket-taking player.
7. Australia (1999)
Host: England, Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, Wales
After a series of 42 matches in 1999, Australia lifted their second cricket world cup title by winning against Pakistan in the final match.This season of ICC cricket world cup took place after three years deviating four the year gap scheme.
The player of the series was Lance Klusener. Most runs were made by Rahul Dravid and Geoff Allott and Shane Warne took the maximum number of wickets.
8. Australia (2003)
Host: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya
Australia lifted their third cricket world cup title in 2003 beating India in the finals. In this season of the world cup Pakistani player Shoaib Akhtar made a world record by delivering the fastest bowl in the history of cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar became the player to score maximum runs and was also the player of the series. Chaminda Vaas was the most wicket-taking player.
9. Australia (2007)
Host: West Indies
Australia won their fourth title in the Cricket world cup in 2007. This was their hat trick title as they won the championship for three consecutive years.
The player of the series was Glenn McGrath and he was also the player to get maximum wickets. Matthew Hayden scored the maximum runs.
10. India (2011)
Host: India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh
India won their second cricket world cup title in 2011 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. India won the world cup after 28 years this season.
The player of the series of Yuvraj Singh. Tillakaratne Dilshan was the player with most runs and Shahid Afridi and Zaheer Khan were the most wicket taking players.
11. Australia (2015)
Host: Australia, New Zealand
Australia won its fifth ICC world cup title in 2015. New Zealand was the runners-up team.
Mitchell Starc was the player of the series. Martin Guptill scored the maximum runs and Mitchell Starc and Trent Boult took maximum wickets.
12. England (2019)
Host: England, Wales
England won their first title in 2019 beating New Zealand. Kane Williamson was the player of the series. Rohit Sharma scored the maximum number of runs and Mitchell Starc was the most wicket-taking player.
The next season of the ICC cricket world cup will be hosted by India and will be held in 2023 with 10 participants.
