The first rounds are therefore declared invalid if there is a long break, and he must restart circumambulating the Kaaba. However, there is nothing wrong with that if the break was short, like if he sat down for one or two minutes before finishing.

Can I drink water during Tawaf?

If a pilgrim has to drink water while encircling the Kaaba, he may do so. He may resume his circumambulation from where he left off if he needs to leave the place where he performs Tawaf. However, this break shouldn't be too abrupt or extensive.

According to many scholars, eating, drinking, talking, or sleeping does not spoil Tawaf.

Forbidden actions during Tawaf

Pilgrims cannot make the following actions while they are around the Kaaba:

·       To circumambulate the Kaaba in a state of a ritual impurity

·       Passing through the Hateem during the circumambulation

·       Performing Tawaf in the opposite direction (i.e. clockwise direction)

·       Starting encircling the Kaaba in a place other than the Hajar-e-Aswad
