Why would someone utter such words? Let's take it gently from when the plane is high in the clouds, the mighty giant in its calm nature. And suddenly it begins shaking as it grapples for its life and that of its companions inside.

The question is, what caused the turbulence, is it the storm outside or the manufacturer's defect of not making it strong enough? Reader, learn to know where the responsibility of the mistake lies before making any assumptions.

I was reading The Four Agreements, and its author caught me unawares right from the introductory bit. A short book but valid examples of the Toltec wisdom, on why we do not achieve a happy and fulfilled life.

We are our own judges and we victimize ourselves according to the data we were fed right from being little and the cycle we feed ourselves each day. We get to judge ourselves according to the "society's and individual dream" as he termed it. Too often our truth is linear to society's truth, trying to seek its validation and ultimately achieve a sense of belonging.

That is the case where different cultures arose and why they differ in various aspects of politics, religion, administration, moral codes(ethics) and so much more enlisted in our mind.

One of the key takeaways in the first few lines of the book was that fear was a drug. A poison for sure to why we cannot break from the cocoon of socially acceptable dogma. Fear is when we know we are against societal and our own dictates and panic as to how society may perceive your difference.

So, what is the cure to this? Should we throw anything we knew into thin air and not give a f**k? NO, apparently we should come to realize that everything was way f**ked up before we existed. Let's not pretend to be all possum to this.

The system ahead of us made sure to this as so all along we knew their truth us our truth and that fear of not being in a group hinders our outer shell from breaking. However, in saying this I go against Don Miguel, who suggests taking responsibility for mistakes rather than judging ourselves and continuing the eternal persecution.

In the book, the four agreements are explained in depth;

  1. Be impeccable with your words!

  2. Do not take anything personally!

  3. Do not make assumptions!

  4. Always Do Your Best!

A critical look at the book reveals that it was written in a certain truth itself. Some set facts disagree with the subject of the book. For instance, in the do not make assumptions subject, Miguel Riaz fails at his own game. In his examples, he assumes tons of times.

I would definitely vouch for it to anyone seeking to break from the shackles of personal freedom. Unleash the high-rise bird to fly to oblivion and join in your own truths and dreams. Furthermore, add some of our own agreements and create your own truth.
