A Foodie’s Day Out at One of the Best Seafood Restaurants in New Jersey

When it comes to seafood, I’m not easily impressed. I’ve slurped fresh oysters by the Pacific, devoured chili crabs in Singapore, and chased grilled octopus across Mediterranean coastlines. But last weekend, something unexpected happened much closer to home right here in Edison, New Jersey. I walked into Ming, and by the time I left, I knew I had just dined at one of the best seafood restaurants New Jersey has to offer. 

First Impressions: A World of Calm and Scented Steam 

Located on the ever-buzzing Oak Tree Road, Ming doesn’t scream for attention. But step inside, and you’re enveloped in warmth—dim lights, muted colors, and a kind of sophisticated calm that makes you want to stay longer than planned. I was greeted with a gentle nod and led to a cozy booth with a view of the open kitchen. That’s when the real show began. 

As a fan of Pan-Asian cuisine, I knew Ming had a strong reputation, but I didn’t realize it would exceed every expectation—especially when it came to seafood. My server, well-versed and genuinely passionate, walked me through the menu. “You have to try the Maguro,” she said with a knowing smile. I nodded, not knowing that my taste buds were about to be blown away. 

The Maguro: Blue-Fin Brilliance 

Let me just say this—the Maguro deserves its own award. I’ve had my share of blue-fin tuna sashimi, but this version was something else. It came plated like a piece of modern art—perfect slices of tuna bathed in garlicky shoyu, perched alongside crunchy puffed buckwheat and pickled turnip. The flavors were balanced yet bold. The team knows their dishes and genuinely wants you to enjoy them. It’s rare to find a place that balances elegance and comfort so effortlessly, but Ming nails it.

Why I’ll Definitely Return 

Ming is not a once-in-a-while restaurant. It’s the kind of place you bookmark in your memory and return to when you want to impress someone, celebrate something, or just treat yourself after a rough week. Next time, I plan to try more of their seafood specialties—maybe even the soft-shell crab I overheard someone raving about on the way out.
